Our superintendent sent an email about creating a policy regarding the use of communication tools between teachers and students. This is the proposal. While I understand the need for caution, I'm a little concerned about something this broad put i...

We have a science teacher with a lot of 35mm slides. He would like to transfer them to a digital picture/file so that kids would be able to use them in projects. Does anyone know of a cost efficient way to do that?

Chris, You might also check with your ESU. I am in ESU 8 and we just got a new podcast server. 50 mg. limit. (Older one was 30). Also on a mac you can put into garage band ..Top line of podcast can now become video and it saves a ton of space. and...

Fair Use or "Fairey Use"

When I first read about this, I couldn't help but think this situation brings up some interesting issues. I decided to develop a lesson about Fair Use based upon it. I'm sharing it with you in hopes that a) it may help others, and b) you will give me suggestions on improvements.

Storing podcasts

I created a podcast of a review session that I had with students. I would like to make it and others available for my students to download when/if they miss a class before a test. Any suggestions about how to go about this. My mac stuff says to upload to a .mac account. I don't have one at this time.

Any ideas?

Chris,
Here is a fabulous example of a teacher and students using a wiki for student work it is by Kendra Farrell and her students. She had posted the URL as part of a discussion on Art Education 2.0 in the Digital Imaging group.
https://msfarrellsdigitalimagery.wikispaces.com/
If you use wiki spaces for your class you do not have to have emails. You can email the usernames and passwords for all of your students and they will create bulk accounts for everyone you want to have access to the wiki!
As a K-12 educator you can also ask to have an educators account that does not have advertising.
I have used wikispaces for art history, ceramics history and for personal pages.

The New Ning for my multimedia class will start tomorrow
I'm very excited to try this as it uses blogs, discussion boards and wiki's all under one headding;
