21st Century Literacy

Recently I was asked to contribute a writing stategy that I use in the classroom to a faculty meeting. I knew that I wanted to highlight the work my students had done on wiki's blogs and now our classroom ning.

I also knew that being the art teacher put me on the fringe of credibility(dont worry its been going on for years) and I really wanted to find some research to back me up. My students were learning important things-not just 6 traits writing skills- this was bigger.

Finally I stumbled up… Continue

Thanksgiving interviews

This holiday I gave my multimedia class the assignment to create and interview video using their small cameras with a movie setting or making a podcast. They are to interview the oldest person at their Thanksgiving dinner and ask 3 questions.

I have the entire assignment on our class blog along with the how to directions on Gcast. This is a bunch of fun and very easy to do.

K-12 Online Conference for web 2.0

Hi,
I am a follower of Liz Davis' Power of Educational Technology Blog. This week she has included information about a K-12 Online conference for teachers interested in using web 2.0 tools in the classrooms, and it is free! Here is the link to her blog post. http://edtechpower.blogspot.com/2008/10/mark-your-calendars-for-k12-online.html.

I looked at your class wiki showing their work. I like what you have done.

I will be working with our Art teacher to display artwork online and am considering this option. Does each student need their own account? If so, do they need their own address or could we do the +name at the end of a class gmail account?

Ann,
I just checked out your class blog. Very nice! I am afraid I am still not ready to have students manage their own blog yet. Good for you!

I noticed that you started a Ning. I am managing one as well, but it is not terribly active. I have a student who is passionate about photography. Would it be OK with you if she joined your network?

Hi, Ann... It's crazy who you run into online. I never would have predicted I'd be in the same social / professional network as my elementary art teacher. Hope all is well in Sidney!

Ann,
I just came across this blog and had to share it with you. I just glanced at it, but it looks great! It is called A Not So Different Place.
